Ultra-Low Profile Escape Respirator

Scientific & Technical Shortfalls Addressed: Standard gas masks and escape respirators are too bulky to be carried easily and inconspicuously on the person. Current respirators are not optimized for use by the general public.

Solution: A range of one-size-fits all Ultra-Low Profile Escape Respirators that can readily fit inconspicuously inside a jacket pocket or be carried in a handbag. The Ultra-Low Profile Escape Respirator occupies less than 25% of the packaged volume of conventional gas masks or escape respirators.

Design Philosophy:

“…personal protective equipment must be readily available when it is needed…”
“If you don’t put PPE on before you leave the barn, you won’t use it.”
La Tourrette et al, NIOSH, 2003

Operational Capability: Designed to meet both European certification requirements for Respiratory Protective Devices for Self-Rescue and US NIOSH CBRN air purifying escape respiratory protection requirements for specified toxic agents. For use by first responders and the general population.

Jacket-Pocket Size: Ultra-Low Profile and inconspicuous. Designed to be readily available, slim-fit enables it to fit easily in a jacket-pocket or handbag. It’s ultra-low profile dimensions are more than three times smaller than standard escape respirators.

One Size Fits all: Swift and simple to use. The Ultra-Low Profile Escape Respirator can be quickly and easily donned in less than 30 seconds. Provides protection for the general adult population including those wearing glasses or beards. No fit testing required.

Protection against fire hazards, industrial chemicals and principal CBRN agents: The Ultra-Low Profile Escape Respirator provides instantly available protection to evacuate to a safe area. The Compact Escape Respirator provides breathing and vision protection to escape from smoke, industrial chemicals and CBRN emergencies. The Compact Escape Respirator also provides unobstructed vision for the wearer and high-visibility for the rescuer because it features a hood that is made from flame and heat resistant yellow polyimide film.
